A power steering pulley installer is used to press a power steering pump pulley back onto its matching pump shaft smoothly and flush.
Because almost all modern power steering pumps utilize plastic, steel, or aluminum pulleys that are heavily press-fit directly onto a smooth, non-splined shaft, you cannot simply tap them on with a hammer doing so will instantly fracture the pulley material or shatter the internal hydraulic seals and bearings inside the pump housing.
Instead, the installer threads straight into the center of the pump shaft, using a heavy-duty thrust bearing and a driving nut to mechanically push the pulley hub forward cleanly without applying any shock force to the pump body.
