A tailpipe expander (or exhaust pipe stretcher) is used to reshape deformed exhaust tubing, remove deep creases left behind by crushed U-bolt exhaust clamps, or stretch the diameter of a metal pipe so a second exhaust section can slide cleanly over it for a seamless slip-fit.
Operating via high-torque mechanical screws, these tools feature nested, segmented metal jaws or dies. As a central hex bolt is driven, it spreads the segments radially outward with thousands of pounds of force to flatten the metal.
