A harmonic balancer puller is used to remove a vehicle's crankshaft pulley (harmonic damper) without warping the component or stripping the engine's crank threads. Because harmonic balancers are press-fit onto the snout of the crankshaft to absorb engine vibrations, attempting to pry them off with a crowbar will break the delicate outer rubber dampening ring. This puller bridges across the face of the damper, using a central forcing screw to smoothly and straightly draw it off the engine.
