Adjustable Band-Style piston ring compressor is used to compress highly tensioned piston rings flush into their grooves so the piston assembly can slide safely down into the cylinder bore.
Because piston rings are manufactured to spring outward naturally to seal against cylinder walls, you cannot slide a piston into an engine block by hand without instantly snapping a ring or gouging the aluminum piston lands.
