  • A valve spring compressor is used to compress highly tensioned valve springs. This relieves pressure on the tiny, two-piece metal wedges called valve keepers (or locks). Once the keepers are removed, you can safely extract the springs, retainers, and the underlying valves to replace worn-out valve stem seals, guide bushings, or bent/burnt valves.
